Dimensions of the smoked smokehouse

Factory and home-made smokehouses for hot smoking from season to season are becoming increasingly popular among those who are accustomed to give preference to home-made products. A person buying a smoking device raises a number of questions about what criteria to rely on when choosing and what to consider.

How to determine the size of the smokehouse for hot smoking

The first and main question that will arise before the buyer will be the question of the dimensions of the purchased device. In order to answer it, you must first decide - what size device is purchased for the fish. Naturally, if the owner of the smokehouse is an avid fisherman returning from fishing with a multi-kilogram catch of large fish, then the mini-smokehouse will not suit him.

Reference!We are talking specifically about fish because for smoking poultry, meat products or lard, an average device with standard sizes of 450x250x250 mm is also suitable.

There are three “basic” parameters for smokehouse sizes:

  • length;
  • height;
  • width.

For smoking large fish, devices with cameras with a length of at least 500 mm are perfect. Width is an equally important parameter, because for good smoking between carcasses of fish there should be small spaces of free space. Devices smaller than 250 mm wide are not well suited for such purposes.

As for the height, for medium volumes of “raw materials” two tiers of gratings will be quite enough. For large fish, the height of the smokehouse should be at least 300 mm.

Reference!Another small advantage of a wide smokehouse will be that the products in it can be placed both along and across the “sides” for better quality of smoke treatment.

What else to consider when choosing a smokehouse

Other important smokehouse selection criteria include:

  1. Wall thickness.The fact is that the thinner the wall of the structure, the sooner it is deformed from temperature extremes or mechanical damage. The rule in this case is simple - the thicker the better. However, do not forget that the wall thickness directly affects the mass of the device, and therefore - its mobility.
  2. Type of cover.Most experts agree that the choice in favor of caps in the form of a "house" would be optimal, since they in the middle have an additional stiffener that resists possible deformation.
  3. Place of use.If a smokehouse is purchased for use at a summer cottage, then the owner does not need to worry much about its size and weight. Another thing is if the device is planned to be used on hikes and fishing, where every kilogram of excess weight and every centimeter of free space in transport become worth its weight in gold. If we are talking about home smoking, then it is worth giving preference to the standard dimensions of the device, which were given above.
  4. The frequency of smoking.In cases where the user is going to smoke products no more often than several times a season, then you can give preference to budget thin-walled models. The wall thickness in them usually does not exceed one millimeter.

The above recommendations will help determine the size and other parameters of the smokehouse.
