LED printer advantages and disadvantages

Nowadays, computer technologies are very important, they have become an integral part of everyday life. Various devices work interconnectedly and provide the activity of various enterprises. Modern ideas and developments are designed to simplify life and improve its quality.

Most activities involve the use of paper sources of information. They are necessary when filling out reports, maintaining documentation, creating archives ... To meet the needs for printing, various versions of printers were created.

This peripheral device connected to a computer has undergone many design changes from the moment of the invention to the present day. Today, there are various versions based on different principles of operation. The most advanced are LED printers. Their base was borrowed from the laser versions. We will talk more about the working mechanism, printing features and properties in our article.

Before discussing the positive and negative aspects of this technique, it is worth understanding the basics of its work and understanding the mechanism of functioning. To begin with, it is worth deciding on a concept. The LED printer is an advanced model of the laser version using special LED lamps that perform the main task of the device.

The first attempts to create such a device were back in the 80s of the last century, but the invention has gained popularity only nowadays thanks to the use of advanced developments in the world of high technologies. The use of LEDs has better performance in comparison with laser predecessors and with an inkjet printer.

For clarity, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the main components that make up the printer, and the features of their interaction to obtain a print on paper:

  1. First, the printer must be correctly connected to the power source and ensure synchronization with the computer system (special software and drivers in the installation disk).
  2. After that, the print mode is set up, then the process of outputting information in print is started.
  3. Using a roller with an exciting hook, one sheet is fed from a special paper compartment into the compartment for applying the print specified by the program.
  4. After that, the sheet passes under the printing press. Here lies the main difference of the device. The basis of printing is the use of LED strip and dye. As a coloring material, toner is used, as in the laser versions. Toner is a special polymer powder (different in density, size and number of granules, mass, color ...), which is fed through the nozzles to the paper and adheres to the sheet under the influence of the high temperature created by the LEDs. The printout process consists of applying the powder directly to the entire strip. There are no special moving parts.
  5. So under the printing press passes the entire page, after which paper accumulates in the drawer in front of the printer.
  6. There are also special mechanisms and circuits that ensure the interconnection of all elements. You can learn more about their device in the instructions and on the company website. However, their purpose is to provide correct signals, for the choice of equipment this is not a fundamental indicator.

In general, the appearance and internal components resemble laser versions of printers, their basic principle of operation remains unchanged, however, the use of a strip of LED lamps improves the process and ensures uniform distribution of toner.

IMPORTANT: There are models in various price categories, from budget to premium. Consider your financial capabilities and the purpose of the equipment when choosing and buying a device.

After a brief introduction to the basics of operation and the principle of printing, you can learn more about the advantages and disadvantages of this model of technology. First, consider the positive qualities of the printer. Since the printer is similar to its predecessor, their properties will largely coincide. However, there are differences that are worth mentioning. Here is a list of key benefits:

  • The compact size and neat appearance make it convenient to place equipment in the office and at home.
  • High print speed and performance.
  • High resolution (the number of pixels per inch of a paper sheet) allows you to display high-quality display of information and images.
  • Using toner prevents blurry text.
  • The strip of LED bulbs has high reliability and durability.
  • When working, toxic substances are not released, which is extremely important for the ecological balance and the health of the human body.
  • The absence of noise also plays an important role, especially in large offices and large enterprises.

Of course, it all depends on the model and cost of equipment, but the advantages described above are typical for the entire product line.

Unfortunately, despite the use of advanced developments and the use of modern ideas, this class of printers has some of its drawbacks. The most important of these are the following:

  • The high cost of the device and its further operation. High costs for the purchase of toner, replacement of elements. The cost of a printed sheet is on average more.
  • Difficulties when refueling, it is necessary to use personal protective equipment: rubber gloves, masks ...
  • Some models do not allow the use of non-native elements. Therefore, they use only original cartridges.
  • Printing speed is slightly lower than that of the laser counterpart.

In order to make a choice, you must carefully consider all the advantages and disadvantages. It is also worth considering your financial capabilities. Typically, the LED version is used in large enterprises and in offices with a large amount of work and the number of orders. At home, the quality and parameters of the texts received do not justify their costs, so it will not be rational to acquire it.

IMPORTANT: If you need a printer only for printing text files, it’s enough to purchase an inkjet version.
