How to connect speakers to a subwoofer

A standard speaker system, whether it be computer speakers or standard car audio, cannot provide high-quality sound. Conventional speakers reproduce sound, located mainly in the frequency range, which distinguishes the ear of a person. A subwoofer is also needed to play a low-frequency audio signal. In order to fully enjoy your favorite musical compositions, you should choose the right device and make a competent connection.

Characteristics of the "sabs" clearly show how they differ from ordinary speakers:

  • frequency range has artificially established boundaries, usually this value is 40-200 Hz;
  • The product is equipped with a large-diameter sound emitter - for example, for a home use device it ranges from 30 to 50 cm.

Subwoofers have a simple design, but are divided into several types: closed, open, active and passive.

  1. Passive. Their design is very simple. They have a filter for low frequency processing and a large speaker. To "shake" such a device will require an amplifier. The device is not able to process or convert a signal.
  2. Active. For their work does not require an additional amplifier. A speaker and circuits for filtering control are mounted in the device case. The product is capable of processing and amplifying the audio signal fed to it. It has a significant advantage - an active subwoofer is easy to install in an already prepared audio system.
  3. Closed. Have a strong case. Most often, the closed type are passive "subs". Such products provide good sound, do not distort the audio signal, do not cause resonance and reverb. However, they have their drawback - the larger the diameter of the established speaker, the more power will be required to “swing” its membrane.
  4. Open This option is installed immediately in the prepared car body, most often in the trunk. With this installation option, the device will use the entire cabin volume to form deep and rich bass. The disadvantage of this "saba" is that it is quite difficult to achieve high-quality sound.

ATTENTION! When using filtering, the frequency maximum that an open-type product allows to achieve is 100 Hz.

Connecting other speakers to an active subwoofer is simple enough. The passive version does not have a standard audio signal amplifier, so you will need to purchase and install it. If this is not possible, then the "sub" can be connected directly to the acoustics. However, in this case, the sound quality will be insufficient. To ensure filtering sound, you can optionally install a filter.

ATTENTION! The filter is able to slightly amplify the audio signal delivered to the acoustics, however, the sound quality will increase slightly.

Thus, the best way is to use an amplifier. So the load on the speakers is significantly reduced.

If you connect conventional speakers and a subwoofer, you first need to make sure that there are appropriate connectors on both devices. The following methods are commonly used:

  1. Using cables with 3.5 plugs. This is the most common connection method, since 3.5 jacks are usually present on all audio devices.
  2. Rca. These wires are divided into a pair of cables through which the sound is supplied from the left and right channels.
  3. Cables with terminals. The cables at the ends have special terminals that need to be latched or screwed. It is important to observe the correct polarity.

Installation of the device in the car is somewhat more difficult. This requires:

  • prepare a place where a “sub” will be installed - after which wires from the radio are brought to it;
  • all cables must be hidden under the car upholstery;
  • the cable should be carefully fixed with clamps, and in the place of installation of the subwoofer, you need to lay the material that provides good cushioning;
  • the amplifier and the “sub” need to be placed at a sufficient distance from each other and securely fix;
  • Both products are connected using wires that need to be inserted into the appropriate sockets.

ATTENTION! The best option is to install cables on the roof of the car. So the probability of their damage decreases.

The procedure for connecting the speakers and subwoofer is quite simple. To achieve a good sound, you must comply with all requirements, use high-quality equipment and reliably fix all connections.
