How to take a screenshot of a monitor

A screenshot is a snapshot of what is currently displayed on the monitor (naturally, without using a camera). At the same time, the image quality remains the same as that of the original, i.e. 72 dpi. It may be necessary to take a screenshot for many reasons - the error that appeared to send it to the support service, the receipt of payment for presentation to the seller, in general, is a document, akin to photocopies offline, indicating that the image was on the screen.
There are several ways to create a screenshot (aka screen, in computer jargon). The easiest is to use the operating system. To do this, there is even a rarity button on the keyboards - but this method requires additional actions. Therefore, a whole industry of screenshot programs has evolved, from the simplest integrated into the modern Windows OS starting with the seventh version, and to programs that allow you to edit the picture on the fly and add captions, arrows, etc. In short, fully accent the user's attention is precisely on what he needs to show. A further continuation is online services - this allows you to immediately publish a screen image on the Internet and get a link to it to send to the recipient.
It is interesting to know that instant messengers (Skype, WatsApp) - have the opportunity in the sent message not only to show a link to a screenshot made by most online services, but also the image itself. In this article, we will look at ways to create screenshots.

How to take a screenshot using Print Screen

This is the oldest, and almost always working way. It has existed since those times when everything was displayed on the screens in plain text, and printers were matrix, oriented, first of all, to printing symbolic information, something akin to a typewriter. To quickly perpetuate what the user sees on the screen - on the keyboard there is a button Print Screen - "print screen". After pressing it, the text from the screen was sent immediately to the printer. So it was in the days of text interfaces (DOS, Unix-console, for example).

REFERENCE! With the advent of the graphical interface - in particular, Windows, the screen began to be copied as an image, and not sent to the printer, but placed on the clipboard. This function is very convenient when “at hand” there is nothing else, and you need to get an image instantly.

Cons - from the buffer it will have to be pasted somewhere, from Word and Paint to Photoshop, processed in this program, if necessary, saved to disk, and somehow sent to the recipient. Naturally, you need to have such a program and skills to work with it.
Step by step, the procedure looks like this:

  1. We are looking for the Print Screen button. In laptops, if the Print Screen is written on the edge of the key, or in a different color, it works with the Fn key pressed simultaneously.
  2. At the right time, press the key. Outwardly, nothing will happen, but the screen will be "photographed" and saved in the computer's memory, to the clipboard.
  3. Next, the image needs to be placed somewhere from the buffer. You can do this in the right place in your Word document - by pressing Ctrl + V. If the picture is not needed in the document, but as a separate file, we use MS Paint (Start - Programs - Standard - Paint), where we also paste from the buffer.

For those who have other programs and image processing skills - Photoshop, for example, the algorithm remains the same.
The resulting file can be edited at your discretion and saved. Then it is easy to send it to the addressee or use it for any other purpose.

How to take a snapshot of a monitor using Scissors

Scissors is a special program that is standard on all Windows systems starting from version 7.

Located in the Start menu, "Programs - Accessories - Scissors". After starting, the user is prompted to select a screen area to create a screenshot. This is not only a rectangular area, but also an arbitrary shape, which is very valuable if you do not want to show too much information from your screen.

After taking the screenshot, it will automatically open in the mini-editor, where you can use a colored pencil - drawing thin lines and a marker to highlight the text. The finished image is saved in PNG, GIF, JPG format.
Thus, the “Scissors”, albeit not an instant way to take a screenshot - but it is quite suitable for simple tasks that do not require image processing. At the same time, it is possible to attract the attention of the recipient to the desired fragment of the picture.

Screenshot Software

There are also literally hundreds of third-party programs that make the screen much more convenient - in the sense that with their help you can not only save the picture to disk, but also upload it for general access to your website on the Internet by placing the link for viewing immediately on the clipboard .

ATTENTION! Such a link is unique and complicated, so it is impossible for an outsider to pick it up and see your screen.

Such programs have enormous functionality for editing a screenshot - both interactively designating its area, rotation, adjusting brightness and contrast, and adding arrows, symbols, text comments, drawing various shapes on top of the screenshot.
One of the most common and functional programs is Joxi. After clicking on its icon or icon, select the copy area.
Next - a huge variety of tools, up to automatically numbered areas, the use of any color is all that is needed to explain the image.
You can save it directly to the Web - share it on social networks or to disk.
If the goal is to quickly share a screen fragment with friends or embed it in a document / blog - such programs would be the best choice.
