How to quickly defrost a freezer in a refrigerator

Sooner or later, any refrigerator owner is faced with defrosting a freezer. For many, defrosting is associated with a painful expectation of thawing ice, spoiling food, scraping frozen pieces of food from the walls, and a mess throughout the kitchen. We will find out how to quickly and efficiently defrost a freezer so as to minimize possible clutter, spend a minimum of time and prevent food spoilage. Quick and accurate defrosting of the refrigeration unit is easier than it sounds!

How to defrost a freezer with a minimum of time and effort? Let's analyze the procedure:

  1. First of all, it is necessary to disconnect the refrigerator from the network, after turning it off using the display or interface, if any.
  2. Open all the doors of the freezer.
  3. Check if there is a special tank at the bottom of the structure designed to drain melt water. In most freezers, such an element is provided, but if it is not there, then you will have to use improvised means, and most importantly, lay a thick towel or rag in front of the unit's nut, which should absorb leaking water. A bucket for periodic extraction of accumulated water also does not hurt.
  4. Remove all drawers from the freezer, if possible, and place them in the bath. They can be tackled later.
  5. Fill a few bowls or basins (depending on the size of your equipment) with boiling water, and then place them immediately on several shelves in different places, preferably closer to those areas where the most ice has accumulated. Close the door and wait.
  6. Thanks to boiling water, the ice will begin to melt quickly. In a few minutes, the door can be opened - some ice crusts begin to open effortlessly from the walls and ceiling, they can be thrown into the bathroom or basin, where they will melt on their own.
  7. The boiling water had to be very cold during the time that it was in the freezer, so if necessary (ice still remains on the inner surface), you need to place the bowls with boiling water inside again.
  8. Repeat the above steps until the ice in the refrigerator has completely melted.
  9. Carefully monitor the water level in the pan, if it rises, periodically drain it.

IMPORTANT: To remove ice in that part of the refrigerator where the cooling mechanism is located, you need to put a cup of hot water exactly there in the first place, and also walk with a sponge soaked in boiling water directly on the ice crust. If the unit is in a running state and has not defrosted for a long time, you can simply use a hairdryer - direct a stream of hot air onto the ice crust, having previously substituted a cup for dripping water.

Above a layer of hoarfrost, you also need to work a little with a hairdryer, and then pry off a "fur coat" with a wooden spatula and carefully remove it. Then you need to pour a basin of hot water and, after adding detergent, wash the refrigerator, simultaneously removing the remaining frost. At the end of washing, you must wait until the refrigerator is completely dry, and only then turn it on.

NOTE: It is most convenient to wash the drawers that have been previously pulled out of the freezer in the bathtub, then rinse under the shower and wipe thoroughly with a towel. Dry boxes are inserted into the freezer after washing.

  1. Do not put food in the freezer immediately after washing. The camera should stand with the doors open for at least an hour, then you can turn on the power outlet and let the unit run empty for several hours. Only after that it will be possible to add food there.

  4. You cannot defrost a refrigerator that is connected to the network, even if you previously unplugged it using the display or buttons, the refrigerator may break, and then you will have to defrost it even more often.
  5. A defrosting hairdryer should only be used as a last resort - if drops of water get on it, there will be a danger of short circuiting. It is best to spend a little more time on natural defrosting than to risk your life and health.

The answer to the question “Why defrost a freezer?”, At first glance, is obvious - this is the only way to get rid of dense ice crusts and wash the refrigerator from the inside. However, not all so simple.
