Why soap on the shelf

Who doesn’t want his clothes to have a pleasant smell for a long time? But, alas, during the time that she is in the closet, not only the aroma of the rinse aid is eroded, but, often, there is a feeling of mustiness, staleness that does not please anyone.

Why put soap in the closet?

Soap is usually put in closets for several reasons:

  • for a pleasant aroma of clothes and in the closet as a whole (the most common option);
  • to neutralize unpleasant odors;
  • to get rid of insects (most often from moths, but sometimes used against cockroaches).

The quantity you determine yourself according to your feelings. One is enough to put one at the bottom of the cabinet, others are laid out in pieces (and sometimes several) on each shelf.

Reference! The amount of soap used is also affected by its “odor strength”.

If you put heavily flavored with a pungent or too exotic smell, then you risk that the clothes may be saturated with them excessively and you just want to run away from this smell somewhere far away, to say nothing of wearing these clothes.

What soap is used and how long does it smell?

When choosing soap for the cabinet, you should not thoughtlessly grab the first one that comes across from the shelf or, as it often happens, the cheapest. To avoid unpleasant situations or just a waste of money, you need to consider several nuances:

  • Choose either a neutral or unobtrusive fragrance. Even the most beloved, but cloying smell, over time, can become boring and become unbearable. And clothes like to absorb odors like a sponge.

Reference! It is not recommended to take the household for this purpose. Although it can be used if it is necessary to “drive out” a very unpleasant odor from the cabinet in any way and as quickly as possible.

  • Prefer non-natural soap, no matter how strange it sounds. Leave it for body care. It should be used, not lying on a shelf. Otherwise, it will deteriorate very quickly, and natural components that have expired by the expiration date can, on the contrary, give an unpleasant fragrance.
  • If the soap has a strong aroma (for example, manufactured by Lush), then you can first store it directly in the package. This will not only prevent the odoriousness of the smell, but also extend the possibility of use.

Ordinary soap can be stored for six months or more (until the smell finally disappears), and after that you can safely use it for its intended purpose. With natural soap this will not work: not only will its pleasant aroma disappear in a month and a half, so most likely it will have deteriorated by this time (due to the lack of preservatives) and it can only be thrown away.

What else can be put instead of soap?

Soap is the most popular option for using to get rid of unpleasant odors in cabinets due to its easy availability. Unfortunately, the same sachets that are directly intended for this can not be found in every city. However, the choice does not end there. You can also use the following options:

  • cotton pads moistened with aromatic oils;
  • empty perfume bottles or caps;
  • perfume samplers;
  • bags of herbs or just a bunch of branches of dried plants;
  • jars with flavored jelly (can be made independently).

Possible ideas are not limited. Use your imagination and affordable means that your clothes are fragrant with your favorite scents.
