Glossy or matte laptop screen - which one is better

When buying a new laptop should pay attention to both the technical characteristics and external features. The point is not in an attractive way, but rather in functionality. Screen cover can be both opaque and glossy. Arguing about which is better can be infinite. However, before you form your opinion, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the advantages and disadvantages of each of them.

Screens with a matte finish appeared relatively recently, however, they managed to gain popularity among many users. These displays have several advantages in comparison with glossy screens:

  • anti-reflective coating that allows you to work quietly in the sun and in bright light without unnecessary strain on the eyes;

Important! Thanks to the anti-reflective coating fingerprints are almost imperceptible.

  • lower contrast, due to which it is much more comfortable to work with large volumes of text and numbers.

But there are disadvantages:

  • dull colors;
  • low color rendition;
  • Grit on inexpensive screens.

Previously, the screens were only glossy, and many users are accustomed to them and do not want to change to others. They have their advantages:

  • bright and saturated colors, as well as a deeper black color due to an artificial increase in contrast;
  • lower energy consumption.

However, the glossy coating has certain disadvantages and some of them can play a significant role in choosing a laptop:

  • strong glare in the sun that interferes with the work;
  • a large load on the eyes - due to glare and contrast;
  • Fingerprints are clearly visible on the monitor.

It is impossible to say which display coverage is better. In order to correctly select a laptop by this criterion, it is necessary to clearly define what it will be used for and in what situations. Therefore, pay attention to the following nuances and figure out what suits you:

  1. Work place with a laptop. If you have to work on the street more often, then give preference to a matte finish. It will not glare so much in the sun as glossy.
  2. Illumination. With the prevalence of bright lighting at the place of using the laptop, choose a matte screen, a dimmer one - glossy. The situation is similar when there are a lot of light sources. The glossy screen may glare from them, making it difficult to work on such a laptop.
  3. Kind of activity. If you work with graphics and the color rendition of shades is important to you, then the glossy finish will suit as well as possible. The predominance of work with text documents involves a greater load on the eyes, so it is better to give preference to the matte screen, which at the expense of lower contrast will reduce it.
  4. Watching movies and games. In this case, it is more difficult to decide. You need to choose what is your priority. Matte coating will not distract, while the glossy will better convey the picture itself.
  5. The principle of working with a laptop. If you want to buy a device with a touch screen, then you should choose a matte finish. This will save you from the constant appearance of fingerprints on the screen. They will appear in any case, but will be less noticeable.

When choosing a laptop, you must take into account a huge number of criteria. Do not rush and then the acquisition will be successful.
