How to customize the mouse

Currently, each user has a PC. Control of a personal computer is carried out mainly with the mouse. There are many varieties of computer mice. They are mainly classified according to design. And by the method of data transfer.

What are

The design of the device are of the following types:

Mechanical ball. An outdated type of mice that are not currently in use, due to unreliable construction and inconvenient operation, as this type of mice did not work without a special mat, and they also need to be cleaned regularly.

Optical LED. This type of device has gained distribution due to the simplicity of design and reliability. The principle of operation of such devices is the joint operation of the LED and the sensor, which "photograph" the surface, and then the microprocessor processes the received data and sends it to a Windows PC.

Optical laser. The principle of operation of these devices is exactly the same as that of optical LED mice. However, the speed of obtaining and processing information is much higher due to the fact that a laser is used instead of an LED.

Trackball mouse. These devices are similar in design to a ball mouse, but the ball in this case is not in the center, but on the side. For the normal functioning of such a device requires a special mat.

Induction. The design of these devices implies the presence of a tablet, which is used instead of a rug. The tablet itself is connected to the PC, and information about the movement of the device on the surface comes from the tablet. Using the mouse separately is not possible.

Gyroscopic. Information about the movement of this device is formed using a gyroscope. Built in design. This way of determining the location. Allows you to control the mouse not only on a flat surface, but also in the air.

Mouse setup after installation. In setting up the device, an important role is played by the method of transmitting information, which is used on this equipment. There are several varieties of the method of transmitting data on mice:

Regular wired mice. The most common devices, transmission and power are via a USB cable or via a PS / 2 port.

Reference! PS / 2 is a rather old connector, which is a six-pin connection. This format is considered obsolete and is almost never used. Instead of PS / 2, conventional USB ports are commonly used.

RF miceand. These devices come with a radio frequency receiver. Information on the PC is transmitted wirelessly from the transmitter on the mouse itself, to the receiver, which is usually connected to a USB port. The device is powered using batteries or ordinary AAA batteries.

Bluetooth mouse. Wireless mouse, the transfer of information on which is carried out via the Bluetooth channel on the laptop. The connection is configured separately, and requires a special built-in module, or additional hardware, on the PC. Rechargeable batteries or batteries

Wi-Fi mouse. This device provides a connection via Wi-Fi channel. For full functioning, you need a high-speed Wi-Fi connection, as well as a built-in or external module on your PC. Power is supplied by the battery or batteries.

Typically, the operating system picks up the drivers and configures the device, but this may not happen. And if automatic configuration does not start, you will have to change the configuration on the device yourself.

To go to the settings you need to open "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Mouse". In the menu that opens, you can make most of the standard settings.

How to configure the assignment of the left and right buttons:

The first item to change the settings is to reassign RMB and LMB. By default, the left button is responsible for selecting (one click) and opening folders and applications (two clicks). The right one is responsible for opening the context menu and properties in a folder or application.

In case the user is left-handed, it will be much more comfortable for him to use a mouse with modified buttons. Where the right will perform the functions of LMB, and the left - RMB. Since the design of this device is basically mirror, the discomfort of left-handed people when using the device should not occur.

Customizing the mouse through "accessibility"

In order to facilitate the use of the mouse with limited capabilities, there are separate configuration options.

To call them you need to press the combination Win + U. Then the "accessibility" menu will open. It is necessary to select the sub-item "Simplification of work with the mouse."

In the opened settings, you can change the following parameters:

  • Size and color of the pointer.
  • There are pointers in size: small, medium and large.
  • By color: white, black and inverse.

Reference! Inverse cursors change color depending on the background. The pointer will be white on a dark image, black on a light background.

  1. Ability to enable cursor control using the keyboard. This function allows you to control the pointer using the keys. This is just a necessary feature. If the mouse is faulty or there is no possibility of simultaneous control of two devices.
  2. Simplified window management.

In this subclause, it is possible to always activate a window when you hover over it and disable window ordering at the borders of the screen.

Standard mouse setting:

  • In the standard settings, you can also configure the following parameters:
  • In the "Index Options" tab:
  • Setting the cursor speed. This parameter is responsible for the sensitivity of the mouse.

Attention! The optimal value of this parameter will be such when, when the mouse moves from one to the other edge of the mat, the cursor moves from one edge to the other of the screen.

Also in the "Pointer Parameters" you can configure the cursor track and mark the location of the pointer when holding CTRL.

In the "Wheel" tab, the sensitivity of the mouse wheel is adjusted. Here you can adjust the sensitivity of scrolling by setting a parameter in the selected window.

In the "Mouse buttons" tab, in addition to setting the RMB and LMB, you can adjust the double-click speed and enable / disable sticking.

Reference! You can also enable / disable the double-click function. To do this, just open "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Folder Options".

In the menu that opens, you can set the function of one click (when the folder is opened with one click and highlighted by hover) or double-click (the folder is highlighted by clicking LMB, and opens with a double click).

Lost mouse settings. In case the mouse settings are lost, and this happens mainly when the power supply is disconnected from the device, open the settings menu and adjust the parameters.

What to do if settings go wrong

In case the settings are lost and the computer does not respond to the device at all, you need to open "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Devices and Printers". In the list that opens, select the desired mouse model and delete it. After that, you must restart the PC.

The device should appear again after turning on the computer and you can begin to configure it.

Attention! If the model does not appear after a reboot, check the connection. If the mouse is wired, you should pay attention to the cable and connectors.

If the device has a Bluetooth connection, then you must restart the Bluetooth module on both devices. For the RF mouse, the receiver should be pulled out of the USB port and reconnected. If after that the automatic setup does not start, the device may be turned off or not working properly.

In order to check the performance of the mouse. Just connect it to another computer. If on another PC, the device is functioning normally, then the problem is not with the mouse.

What are the general mouse settings?

Among the mouse settings, it is worth highlighting: cursor sensitivity, double-click speed and wheel sensitivity. Also from unregulated parameters it is worth highlighting the response speed, the frequency of information exchange and sensitivity. Measure more accurate parameters allow special services.
