Sizes of sides in a crib for newborns

The sides of the crib protect the child from falling, the flow of cold air and contact with hard rods of the bed. They are necessary both for the smallest and for older children, who early begin to actively move and roll over, preventing injuries or bumps. Soft pillows do not interfere with air circulation, and if necessary, they are easily cleaned and returned to their place.

What size should be the sides on the crib

In general, the selection of the right size is carried out individually, based on the size of the crib and its placement. For cool rooms with a window and the cold season, it is better to pick up the sides higher, for troubled children who move a lot - place them around the entire circumference of the crib. There are many variations in sizes and colors, as well as variations in decor. Often, protective cushions come with a matching set of linen. You can also use rollers: they are suitable for children who still do not know how to move independently.

Height

The standard height of the average crib is about 60 cm. The height of the sides can vary: cover only the bottom of the rods, rise about half the height or two-thirds, or completely cover all the rods.

Maximum height is the best protection against drafts, but at the same time it has its drawbacks: the child will not see anything happening around, and his vision will be limited. Such an arrangement of the sides can affect mental development.

The protection of the crib, covering it by about half or a third, allows the child to freely explore the world around him, but at the same time, the function of their protection is significantly weakened.

Low rollers are suitable for newborn children, close from blowing and secure the bed.

Important! Decorative elements and fasteners are sure to attract the attention of the child, so it is better to do without decoration, which can be easily broken off, and choose the sides with hidden zippers.

Length and width

As well as height, the remaining measurements of the bumpers, as they are otherwise called, must be individually associated with the child. For a newborn child, protection from only two sides or long rollers will be sufficient, while for an older child there will be a need to cover all four sides with safe pillows. To do this, you can purchase long pillows, rolled up like a roll: fixing on the corners of the crib will create reliable protection. Additionally, you can use several pillows.

These sides are standardized, they can be combined in a way that is convenient for the child, placing both around the perimeter and covering individual sides.

Attention! If necessary or the custom size of the bed, protective bumpers can be made in workshops.

The purchase of a transformer deck is a good and practical solution for a bed of a non-standard shape or size. At first it is used on a small cradle, after when the child is moved to the crib, the rest of the side is added to it. It serves as the creation of some playpen and safe play space for the child. Transformers consist of several pillows, this allows them to be multifunctional and occupy all the necessary internal space with them. The ability to take out some parts allows you to use them not only as pillows on the sides, but also as a playground. Many pillows have ties that make it possible to tie the pillows into a small mattress for playing on the floor.

Unlike usual, such sides are easier to maintain. If necessary, you can replace only one pillow, and even one pillowcase is faster and more convenient than removing it from the entire side of the bumper.
