Gas boilers are the most popular and are widely used in autonomous heating systems. Despite their efficiency and ease of operation, it is not uncommon for heating equipment to go out during the cold season, which entails a rapid decrease in room temperature. It will be natural to call a specialist to fix the problem, but what if the gas boiler goes out and the master does not have the opportunity to quickly arrive? In this case, it is worth trying to figure out what happened in order to understand why the wick goes out and eliminate the malfunction yourself.

For what reason can the device suddenly go out?

A gas boiler goes out in your house, what do you not know? Automation fuel cuts are possible for many reasons. The most common of them is a strong wind, however, this problem is familiar only to owners of private houses. In this case, the check valve under the influence of air pressure becomes in the closed position, which is the reason for the immediate stop of the gas supply.

NOTE. In case of frequent blowing of the boiler, the chimney should be reconstructed. Perhaps its installation is made with a deviation from the rules and regulations or the ventilation design does not correspond to the technological parameters.

The main reasons for the shutdown of modern boilers:

  • triggering of the flow sensor due to shutdown of the coolant;
  • reduction or complete cessation of air supply;
  • a surge in voltage or its absence;
  • malfunction of the draft sensor or failure of the thermocouple;
  • weak draft in the chimney;
  • interruptions in gas supply.

If the boiler suddenly dies, it is necessary to check in turn all the causes that lead to a problem starting with the presence of draft in the chimney.

Causes of attenuation of heating equipment and their elimination

Gas boilers are a complex system with many different devices and sensors, while the failure of one element leads to a complete stop of the device as a whole. For example, an incorrect setting of the igniter requires pressure adjustment (a flame “breaks off” indicates a problem), failure of the circulation pump - repair or replacement of a part.

IMPORTANT. Many boilers are equipped with outdated automation that does not work in the case of reverse traction, which is extremely dangerous because it collects combustion products indoors, thereby poisoning residents.

It is possible to notice the attenuation of the boiler far from immediately, because most often it is located in a separate room. This is fraught with the fact that the problem is detected by the cooled batteries and lowering the temperature in the home.

Insufficient gas pressure

A common situation in which the attenuation of the boiler is caused by a lack of gas. The reason may be due to weak pressure inside the network or equipment breakdown. The latter includes the depressurization of the fasteners, which entails a gas leak and a decrease in its pressure, which causes the system to turn off and turn off. In addition, it is possible to break the gas meter, seizing the boiler mechanism and further stopping the gas supply.

TIP. To detect a leak, use an ordinary soaped sponge - bubbles will appear in the depressurization places.

Chimney disturbances

An equally common cause, which is formed as a result of the formation of ice on the pipe as a result of cooling and settling of the condensate. Gradually, its layer becomes thicker, traction decreases, and automation stops the flow of fuel. It is not difficult to solve the problem - it is enough to thoroughly clean the chimney and effectively insulate it.

Another consequence of the problem can be reverse thrust - an intensified or changeable wind enters the pipe, blowing out the boiler. To avoid this, the pipe should be replaced taking into account its height, which should be at least 50 cm above the ridge.

Incorrect fan operation

The fan is installed for the purpose of forced removal of smoke from the combustion chamber and is controlled by a pressure sensor, which in case of malfunctions makes the operation of heating equipment impossible. It’s easy to detect a breakdown:

  • the discharge turbine rotates slowly or stops, while the motor is noisy;
  • the appearance on the indicator of a breakdown in the form of “Delay in the response of the rheostat”.

The causes of failure include malfunction of the inductor, bearing wear, turbine imbalance, low power or its complete absence, etc. In this case, the best solution would be to contact a specialist who will repair or replace failed components.

Unstable power supply

It is impossible to predict surges in the network, while a low voltage level leads to the attenuation of the gas boiler, and restoration of the normal level leads to its repeated switching on. In most cases, the owners will not notice anything, however, such differences adversely affect the condition of the equipment and reduce its life.

TIP. To avoid shutting down the boiler due to power surges, it is recommended to install a voltage stabilizer or uninterruptible power supply.

Faults due to severe frosts

Severe frosts lead to the early appearance of ice growths on the head, which entails the cessation of oxygen access and further attenuation of the gas boiler. It’s simply impossible to bring them down, because the ice is not only outside but also inside. The output will be the dismantling of the head and defrosting it in the bathroom or other container. At this time, the boiler can be started, but only under constant monitoring and with gas shutoff in the main burner.

Self-repair of a gas boiler when it is extinguished

Wall-mounted boilers equipped with an open or closed combustion chamber are complex devices, but repairing the damage with your own hands is still possible, as with other varieties of them. The boiler may not work for 3 reasons:

  • complete shutdown of the device;
  • lack of ignition when the indicator and display turn on and light;
  • ignition and subsequent attenuation of the burner.

Manipulations should be carried out in accordance with the instructions for the device, which usually indicate the main malfunctions and how to deal with them.

TIP. First of all, it is recommended to check the voltage, because, for example, the banal operation of the machine can cause its absence.

If the voltage is normal, it is necessary to dismantle the front panel with a screwdriver, and then check all the fuses in the unit. If you find a faulty one, you should replace it, which can help and the boiler will work, otherwise, contact the master. It also needs to be called if, upon a thorough inspection, burned-out elements on the board, broken wires and smudges are detected. Some problems can be fixed even in the absence of experience and skills:

  • clean the clogged sump;
  • pump air in case of low pressure in the tank;
  • eliminate leaks and add water to a normal level;
  • adjust the circulation pump by loosening the screw in the center and bleeding air.

Of course, an ordinary user will not succeed in eliminating a complex malfunction, however, a simple malfunction is quite amenable to avoiding significant heat loss, saving money and nerves. The components of success are strict adherence to recommendations and instructions, as well as confidence in your actions.
