How to connect a printer through a network cable

Connecting a device to a computer involves not only combining and synchronizing the operation of the system with devices, but also installing drivers and initial configuration of the interface. But manufacturers do not always foresee this, especially when the printer is working. Connecting the device through a network cable will help facilitate the further operation of the printing apparatus, and also free up one of the USB slots.

How to connect a printer through a network cable

Connecting the printer to a computer via a network cable is easy. The list of necessary actions:

  • Insert one end of the wire into the device (as a rule, the input is located at the rear of the printer), and the other into the corresponding socket on the PC system unit.
  • Now you need to find the PrintScreen button on the printer and click on it. This action causes the printer to print the IP address.
  • On the computer, in the "Start" menu, find the item "Devices and Printers" in the right part of the window.
  • At the top of the new window, find the printer settings button.
  • The system will ask the user about the type of device to be installed. It needs to be answered that a local device is being installed.
  • The next step is to select the appropriate port. The user should create a new one by selecting Standart TCP.
  • After selecting the required port, you will need to enter the IP address. It can be found on the leaflet that was printed at the very beginning.
  • Accept changes. It is important that the LPR protocol is checked and that the byte counting function is enabled.

It remains only to install the driver. Drivers can be found on the Internet or can be installed from the disk that came with the printer. If there is such a disk, you need to insert it into the drive and, by clicking the "Browse" button, specify the path to the drivers on the disk. In its absence, you will have to download the software on the Internet and indicate the path to it in the memory of the PC itself.

Now you need to return to the device and printer window, select the icon, click RMB and, clicking on "Properties", assign access - shared or single.

What to do if the printer does not connect

There may be several reasons for problems with the network cable:

  • The cable is not fully inserted. After complete installation in the slot, a click should sound and snap into place.
  • The cable is defective. Perhaps there are gaps along its length.
  • The problem with the network card. Her work can be checked with another cable. Which works properly.
  • Damaged network card drivers. The problem is solved by reinstalling the software on the card.
