How many hertz is better for a monitor

Modern display models are characterized by several basic parameters. This screen resolution, response time and refresh rate. Although, it would seem that the latter characteristic was inherent only in CRT screens. However, it is present on modern models, moreover, three numbers are indicated in the settings.

At a time when displays occupied half of the table space and were heavily weighted, the parameter “refresh rate”, or as it is also called “frame scan”, indicated how often the broadcast picture blinks. It was believed that the higher this figure, the better. This was explained by the fact that with high values of personnel scanning, the eyes were tired much less. Sometimes this figure reached a mark of 144 Hz. On sale there were even video cards that support monitors with a frame scan of 240 Hz.

Modern models have values of 59, 60 or 75 Hz. Where do these numbers come from?

According to the existing theory, in order for the human eye to perceive the whole picture, the sampling frequency should be at least twice the frequency of the perceived signal.

That is, if the analog signal has a frequency of 25 Hz, this value must be doubled. The MPEG digital signal is 30 Hz. Multiplying these numbers by 2, we get 50 and 60 Hz, respectively. The value of 59 Hz is averaged, since in different countries the frequency of AC power is different. For example, in Europe it is equal to 50, and in Russia 60 Hz. All modern models of video cards are equipped with a system that is resistant to these network interference.

Different display models may vary. Therefore, you need to know how many hertz supports a particular display. To do this, you must perform:

  • Being on the "Desktop", press the right button on the mouse and find "Screen Settings".
  • At the bottom of the menu that opens, select the sub-item "Graphics adapter properties."
  • Find "Monitor" in it, where the value supported by the screen will be written.

ATTENTION! This method is used on Windows 10. On other operating systems, items may vary.

If you are using the operating system Windows 7, then this is done through the Start menu. Next, go to the "Control Panel", where to select the "Screen" tab. It is necessary to find the sub-item "Advanced parameters" in it.

There is no ideal frame rate value, as this indicator consists of several parameters. Age also matters, because gradually visual acuity decreases. Therefore, in such a situation, the value of the frame sweep should be greater.

On the other hand, the graphics adapter is responsible for transferring the image to a computer monitor. And if the video card produces a figure of 60 Hz, then a display of a value above this figure will not show. If 60 Hz is set on the monitor, and the video card produces a higher scan, then the so-called artifacts will appear.

Thus, in order to choose the ideal parameter for yourself, you must first find out the characteristics of the graphics adapter and monitor. The figure of 60 Hz is comfortable for the eyes.
