The TV does not see the flash drive

Very often there is a problem when the TV cannot detect a USB drive. Manufacturers were able to create devices that can record data, and a flash drive allows you to store and play them. In modern TVs, they mount USB ports, which allows you to connect portable sources of information to them, and view data. But damage and incompatibility can lead to the fact that the TV will not be able to accept portable sources of information.

TV cannot accept portable storage

Very often failures in the process of connecting drives. But this does not mean that the TV or flash drive is broken. There may be several reasons. And one of them is the wrong connection. The manual that comes with the TV should say exactly how portable sources of information are connected.

If the user has checked the correct connection and determined that this is not the problem, then the cause of the malfunction is different. The most common:

  1. Conflict formats.
  2. The USB drive is defective.
  3. A certain limiter is installed on the TV, associated with the memory of flash drives.
  4. There is a lock on the port.
  5. File formats located on a USB flash drive are not supported by the device.

The main reasons for the appearance of such conflicts:

  1. The USB connector on the TV is broken.
  2. The flash drive itself is out of order.
  3. Files of unknown format are installed on USB. The TV is not able to recognize them or read the names.

Before connecting portable sources of information, it is necessary to read the instructions. Particular attention is paid to the following parameters:

  1. Features of the TV and compatibility with USB drives.
  2. What are the limitations on the amount of memory in storage media.
  3. Is there access to USB.

Attention! Using the instructions, you can determine the cause of the problems. If the instruction did not help, you need to check the performance of the flash drive itself. To do this is very simple, you need to connect it to a computer. If the latter showed the contents of the drive, then everything is in order with it. Then you need to find the problem why the flash drive is not detected.

Format incompatibility

Perhaps the cause of the error concerns file type incompatibility. Most often, the FAT 32 system is perceived. And if formatting using the NTFS system occurs, the device will not be able to use it. In such cases, you need to look for a solution in the instructions for the TV.

If it was possible to determine that the reason is really the difference in the format of the data located on the USB flash drive, you must reformat it from a device that has a hard drive. For this:

  1. The drive is inserted into the computer.
  2. You must open My computer.
  3. Right-click on the flash drive icon that appears.
  4. Select the format command.
  5. Our window opens. There will be a line “Type of file system”. There you need to install. Then click on the format button.
  6. Once a certain time has passed, formatting will end, and the drive can be used again.
  7. Again, try to connect a USB flash drive. If he still does not perceive it, then the reason is different. We are looking for another solution.

Limit Pa Memory

Some models set a limit on the amount of memory on devices to connect (flash drives also belong here), so some models are not able to read information on drives if they are 32 GB or more. To determine what volumes the TV is capable of perceiving, read the instructions. If less is indicated there, you will have to buy another drive. There is no other choice.

Format conflict

It happens that the TV cannot open files of a specific format (it does not support the latter). This error occurs when you try to open a video or audio file with a non-standard extension. To determine the file formats that the TV supports, you need to refer to the instructions. Then see what format files are in the drive. If the instructions do not have the required format, we need to download the conversion program from the Internet. It will allow you to change the file format to the one we need.

Reference! Another reason the TV cannot receive files is their name. Some devices support only numbers and Latin letters. So, if the file name contains Cyrillic or extraneous characters, the TV may not be able to read them. You must rename these files so that the name contains only numbers and Latin letters.

USB service only port

In some versions, “USB service only” is written under the TV’s USB port. This means that the port will be used in service only for repairs.

These slots are locked for flash drives. But the lock can be removed. Here you have to ask for help from an expert. But if you have basic knowledge in electronics, you can try to do it yourself. For example, for LG models you need to do the following:

  1. We need to take the necessary tools. The most important thing is the soldering iron and indicators.
  2. Open the service menu.
  3. We solder two indicators and connect them to the speaker system.
  4. Download sound files and install them on your device.
  5. We activate their reproduction. For this, indicators are brought to the infrared emitter.
  6. Install the program on the phone to control the service.
  7. We enter the application. Open the Tooloption tab.
  8. Change the settings. The default number is 0. Set 1. This value will allow you to watch photos and listen to music from portable storage.
  9. To enable video support, you need to change Divx to HD. Do not touch other tabs and settings.
  10. The entered data is saved.
  11. You can turn on the TV, and connect the drive.

File failed

If the flash drive was used repeatedly, and it always worked, but one fine day, the TV stopped detecting it. Most likely, the files on the external drives were worn out. To check bad sectors, the USB flash drive is connected to the computer. Then you need to do the following:

  1. Go to “My Computer”.
  2. Right-click on the flash drive icon that appears.
  3. Our menu will open. We need to go to the “Properties” section.
  4. A window has appeared. In the upper part, click on the “Service” button.
  5. There will be 3 sections. The very first is called “Disk Check”. That is what we need. Click on the button “Run check”.
  6. Depending on the type of Windows, we will display a window asking you to allow the operation. Allowed.
  7. Now a new window appears. On it we mark the items “Scan and repair damaged sectors” and “Automatically fix system errors”.
  8. Press the start button.
  9. As soon as the check is over, we will see a window in which it will be written exactly what errors are present on the drive, and the recommended ways to eliminate them.

What else could be the reasons

If the above methods do not apply to your case, and the flash drive still does not work on the device, you need to check the operability of the USB section of the TV. You can verify this by connecting another USB flash drive or device suitable for the USB partition. If nothing works, and you are sure that the problem is a port malfunction, you must take the device to a service center or to the store where it was purchased. If you have a warranty that has not yet expired, repairs in the store should be free of charge. If the warranty period is over, you will have to contact a service center and pay for repairs.

There are many reasons why the TV does not see the flash drive, and also what to do about it. You must start by familiarizing yourself with the instructions, and only then look for a breakdown.
