How to hang a shelf on a wall

After the repair, the need constantly arises to fix all the decor elements into place. During this procedure, it often becomes a problem how to fix the shelf to the wall so that it looks attractive, harmoniously matches the design, and at the same time is safe and conveniently located. Such a problem appears due to walls made of different materials, and before fixing the shelf, you need to know certain nuances.

How to hang a shelf on a wall

During fastening, the type of fastener itself is very important. Having become acquainted with the mounting methods, you can easily pick up the necessary option:

  1. Invisible fasteners. Using this method, you can hide the fasteners, and the structure on the wall will look light and elegant. It is best that the wall is made of concrete or brick. They are not advised to use this fastener for walls that are sheathed with plasterboard.
  2. Brackets. In this case, all the elements cannot be hidden, they will be noticeable. As savings, you can buy steel or plastic corners. If you want to give the shelf an attractive appearance, choose decorative mounts, but without fail in pairs. One nuance must be taken into account - the brackets may not be suitable for any interior.
  3. Hinges. This is the most popular method - simple, practical, quick to execute, and at the same time can fit into any design. Features of the manufacture of loops allow different loads on the shelf. Not all varieties of these mounts in practice can be fixed with your own hands. In certain cases, you need to contact professionals.
  4. Glass holders. These mounts are equipped with rubber seals that protect the surface in the fastener area. Shelf holders are different in design, there are models with Velcro that look beautiful. They are fixed at the bottom, and a support is placed at the top.

Attention! The corner kitchen will look especially good when choosing glass holders for fastening.

Tools and materials

For fasteners will be necessary:

  • electric drill;
  • level;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer drill;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • anchor;
  • glue;
  • jigsaw;
  • drill;
  • set of fasteners;
  • wrench;
  • hammer;
  • marker.

What should be the wall

Choosing the option of fasteners, it is necessary to take into account not only its attractive appearance, but also the way of fixing to the wall, which can be made of various building materials:

  1. Concrete walls are durable. Therefore, it is almost impossible to fix a self-tapping screw into this wall. You must first try to make a hole.
  2. Today, plasterboard is often used for decoration. A butterfly anchor is used for this material.
  3. If the walls are made of wood, then fixing the shelf will not cause problems. The only difficulty may be finding a place where you can make a hole. After the shelf, you need to bring it to the marked points and tighten it with screws. To fix the product on a wooden surface, you do not need to buy an additional tool, the self-tapping screw can be screwed in with an ordinary screwdriver.

Hang the shelf on the wall: step by step instructions

Before you start drilling the walls, you need to make sure that there are no electrical cables in the work area. There are devices for detecting hidden electrical wiring.

Mounting Instructions:

  1. First of all, you need to accurately determine the location of the fasteners, taking into account your interior. Shelves for books may vary in width from the same products for plants. Pick up the shelf of the required length and lean against the wall in the area of the proposed fasteners. Set it horizontally using a level and draw a line along the bottom.
  2. Before drilling a tile, it is necessary to check whether it is possible to fix the product by making a hole between adjacent plates. So the tile will remain intact and there is no doubt that the stand is fixed horizontally. If you still need to drill a hole in the tile, you need to mark the attachment point on the masking tape glued crosswise to the surface. This will make it possible to avoid sliding of the drill bit. You need to drill a little more than the size of the dowel, since it is obliged to completely drown in the wall. With this installation of the dowel, the tile does not crack when the screw is screwed in.
  3. The weight of the stand should be distributed over several fasteners installed in the wall using self-tapping screws. The distance between the fasteners should not be very large so that the product does not hang in the center. The number of fasteners will depend on the load placed on the stand. For products from fiberboard with a thickness of 15 mm, it is best to choose a step between fasteners of about 55 cm. For models from MDF, it is advisable to choose a distance between fasteners of about 65 cm.
  4. Lean the fasteners against the wall so that the tip is in the same position as the line that was drawn with the marker. Mark one hole, make sure it is vertical, then mark the rest of the holes. In the same way, you need to mark the holes of another fixture.
  5. When making holes, you need to use the type of drill that is required for the material from which the wall is built. To fix the fasteners with a small shoulder, choose 50 × 5 mm screws, for shelf holders with a long shoulder - 50 × 7 mm.

Shelf fasteners need to be approached very carefully, even if there are some installation skills with rails and fasteners, wooden or plaster walls. Always carefully select fasteners and fixing tools. Without visible difficulties, the shelves can be hung independently, but if there are no skills in fastening the shelves, then it is advisable to seek the help of an experienced craftsman. His services will cost inexpensively, but they will be performed efficiently.
