Installing a coarse water filter

Water before entering residential buildings always passes through a whole system of filters of urban treatment facilities. But, despite this, many chemical particles larger than 10 microns in size remain in it. Their impact adversely affects people's health, the operation of household appliances that consume water, and plumbing. Installing coarse filters will prevent them from entering the house.

The main types of filters for rough water purification

Pre-filters are separated based on many factors of their design, installation and purpose.

Worth knowing: if a pre-treatment element is not installed at the place of water supply to the house, many manufacturers of expensive household appliances and plumbing refuse to provide a guarantee for their products.

Depending on the degree with which the cleaning is carried out, emit:

  • Single stage;
  • Two-stage;
  • Three stage filters.

Filtration of the first stage involves only the removal of rust, sediment and sand particles from the water stream. While the second stage of cleaning helps get rid of organic elements, chlorine and the presence of odors, and the third - removes iron particles and makes it softer.

Considering how the sump is located in which the filtered impurities are collected, the filter can be oblique or straight. Direct is called perpendicular to the installed water tank, and oblique - placed under a certain slope.

Depending on the type of element performing the filtering, devices can be:

  • Corrugated;
  • Mesh;
  • Winding.

If the filter does not have a cartridge, it is called a dirt collector. The degree of their filtration is much lower. This is partially offset by the low cost and ease of use of the device. Cartridges are periodically replaced with new ones, while you can simply remove the cover from the dirt collector and rinse it.

Features of installing different types of devices

How to install a rough water filter? Mesh oblique filters are the most common and easy to install. The algorithm of work is as follows:

  1. The installation location is selected. Horizontal installation and areas with good accessibility are preferred. This enables convenient access to the sump for further cleaning.
  2. A section of the pipeline is cut to fit the size of the device and its additional elements.
  3. Threads are applied to the pipes so that the components can be firmly fixed.
  4. The connecting parts and the filter itself are installed.
  5. Turns on the water.

The same sequence applies to cartridge systems, with the only feature that the reservoir where dirt particles accumulate is much larger in such devices, which accordingly requires more free space for it.

Rules for installing a rough filter in a country house

When installing each type of device, it is necessary to take into account its specifics and act in accordance with the instructions. Ignoring the rules will lead to improper installation and complete inoperability of the filter.

It is important: no matter what device is installed, before starting work, the water supply to the house must be shut off.

Rules applicable to any type of instrument:

  • The filter is always located in the place of the system where water begins to flow directly into the house;
  • For horizontal installation, the device sump should be located below;
  • The filter element is placed in the direction of the water flow immediately after the shut-off valve;
  • The device is installed in front of a water meter;
  • Vertical installation is allowed exclusively in sections of water flow from top to bottom;
  • The movement must necessarily correspond to the arrow indicated on each filter;
  • All structural elements must be suitable for each other in such parameters as pipe diameter, allowable pressure, etc.

It is important: Immediately after installation, briefly empty the water and pay attention to the appearance of even slight leaks. This will help to identify whether mistakes were made during the work and quickly eliminate them.

A properly installed coarse filter will significantly increase the quality and safety of the water used in the house.
