Open and closed headphones what is the difference

Music has long become an integral part of life. With the advent of headphones, it became possible both to move with it and to perform any action without causing any particular inconvenience to outsiders. What is the difference?

Now picking a headset for every taste and color is not difficult. They are divided into categories according to various characteristics, and according to one of the most popular classifications, they are divided into open and closed.

Such headphones differ both externally and in a number of other indicators. So the hallmarks of closed headphones will be:

  • more snug fit to the ears (some models even completely cover the auricle;
  • the absence of gaps and various perforations, which allows you to listen to music at full volume without comment from others.

Accordingly, open can be determined by opposite characteristics:

  1. lack of elements providing maximum insulation;
  2. comfortable in constant wear (as they have a minimum size and weight).

Important: Before blaming the headphones for poor quality due to poor insulation and similar characteristics, you should understand whether you bought the type of headphones. It is likely that this type does not imply such a function at all.

Due to the different tastes of listening to music, the attitude to a particular type of headset varies. So, the advantage of some will be a disadvantage for others and vice versa, therefore it is easier to evaluate them according to special characteristics:

  • Sound isolation. Closed ones mean completely immersing in music without extraneous sounds "from the world", while open ones, on the contrary, allow you to hear both speeches and various warning signals.
  • Silence from the side. For fans of hard rock, it is very problematic to listen to your favorite music at full volume, without creating problems for others. High-quality closed headphones guarantee that only the owner will listen to the music, and not all the people around him. Open do not have such a function.
  • Echo. Open headphones through perforations to avoid this effect.
  • Studio use. Closed ones are more comfortable to use for recording in the studio.

Important: when purchasing any headset, whether closed or open, you should pay attention to its quality.

Of course, it is not necessary that the most expensive models are the best option, but you should not demand high characteristics from accessories below one hundred rubles. It is best to read the reviews before buying.
